Max (Francesc Capdevila) is a central figure in the Spanish alternative comics movement. Associated with the magazine El Víbora from the early 1980s, his early work — including the punk anti-hero Peter Pank — captured the energy of post-Franco youth culture. His later graphic novels, notably Bardín el Superrealista and El Prolongado Sueño del Sr T, display a more measured, philosophical sensibility and have earned him the Spanish National Comics Award. Max's pen-and-ink work is characterised by precise linework and a deep engagement with art history.
