About the artist

Max

Max (Francesc Capdevila) is a central figure in the Spanish alternative comics movement. Associated with the magazine El Víbora from the early 1980s, his early work — including the punk anti-hero Peter Pank — captured the energy of post-Franco youth culture. His later graphic novels, notably Bardín el Superrealista and El Prolongado Sueño del Sr T, display a more measured, philosophical sensibility and have earned him the Spanish National Comics Award. Max’s pen-and-ink work is characterised by precise linework and a deep engagement with art history.

About this series

Peter Pank

Peter Pank (1983) is the punk-inflected reimagining of J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan by Max, originally serialised in El Víbora. Transposing Neverland into the post-Franco counterculture of 1980s Barcelona — complete with mods, rockers and hippies — the series became a touchstone of the Spanish alternative comics scene and remains Max's best-known early work.
