About the artist

Jean Giraud (Mœbius)

Jean Giraud — who published his western work under the signature Gir and his science-fiction work as Mœbius — is among the most influential cartoonists of the second half of the twentieth century. His classical western series Blueberry (with writer Jean-Michel Charlier) transformed the Franco-Belgian adventure comic, while his Mœbius identity, unleashed in Métal Hurlant from 1975, produced Arzach, The Airtight Garage and the epic collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky, The Incal. His reach extended into film design (Alien, Tron, The Fifth Element) and into the visual vocabulary of global science fiction.

About this series

Blueberry

Blueberry (from 1963) is one of the masterworks of Franco-Belgian comics — a western saga created by writer Jean-Michel Charlier and artist Jean Giraud (Gir), whose signature realism and atmospheric American landscapes revolutionised the European adventure comic. Following Charlier's death, Giraud continued the series as writer-artist before handing the reins to later creators; the character remains an icon of the genre.
