Jean Giraud — who published his western work under the signature Gir and his science-fiction work as Mœbius — is among the most influential cartoonists of the second half of the twentieth century. His classical western series Blueberry (with writer Jean-Michel Charlier) transformed the Franco-Belgian adventure comic, while his Mœbius identity, unleashed in Métal Hurlant from 1975, produced Arzach, The Airtight Garage and the epic collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky, The Incal. His reach extended into film design (Alien, Tron, The Fifth Element) and into the visual vocabulary of global science fiction.
