Tanino Liberatore
Tanino Liberatore is an Italian artist whose anatomical, muscular painted style emerged from the Frigidaire magazine scene of the early 1980s. With writer Stefano Tamburini he created RanXerox, a violent, post-punk science-fiction serial that became one of the defining European comics of its decade. Liberatore’s extravagant figuration — drawn with anatomical-study precision and aggressive colour — has influenced generations of painter-cartoonists and illustrators.

RanXerox
RanXerox (from 1978) is the post-punk science-fiction serial by writer Stefano Tamburini and artist Tanino Liberatore, first published in the Italian magazine Frigidaire. Following a violent, androgynous bio-engineered brute through a decaying near-future Rome, Liberatore's anatomically exacting painted pages brought a muscular, aggressive sensuality to European comics that found no equivalent on either side of the Atlantic.
