About the artist

John Buscema

John Buscema was one of the defining artists of Marvel Comics’ Silver and Bronze Ages. Trained in classical draughtsmanship, he brought a monumental sense of anatomy and dynamic staging to titles including The Avengers, The Silver Surfer and, most notably, Conan the Barbarian — a sustained collaboration with writer Roy Thomas that defined the visual template for heroic fantasy in American comics. His instructional book How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way (1978) remains a foundational text for the medium. His brother Sal Buscema pursued a parallel career as a prolific Marvel penciller.

About this series

Thor

Thor, Marvel's reinterpretation of the Norse thunder god, was launched in 1962 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby — whose long original run produced some of the most cosmologically ambitious pages in American comics. Subsequent significant runs include Walt Simonson's self-written and drawn tenure in the 1980s and, more recently, Jason Aaron's run with artists including Esad Ribić.
