Brian Bolland

Brian Bolland is a British comic artist renowned for the precision and graphic clarity of his line. He rose to prominence drawing Judge Dredd in 2000 AD during the 1970s and ’80s, co-created DC’s Camelot 3000 (1982) with writer Mike W. Barr, and illustrated Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke (1988) — one of the most widely read graphic novels in the medium. In later decades he became celebrated for his meticulous painted covers for titles including Animal Man and The Invisibles.

Superman, created in 1938 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, is the founding figure of the American superhero. The character's visual identity was consolidated across the decades by artists including Wayne Boring, Curt Swan, José Luis García-López and John Byrne, and has been extended in the modern era through Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman, Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright and the work of Gary Frank.
