About the artist

Quino

Quino (Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón) was the Argentine cartoonist whose strip Mafalda (1964–1973) became one of the most widely translated and beloved works in the history of Latin American comics. Through the voice of a precocious middle-class girl and her friends, Quino articulated a humane, sceptical, left-leaning reading of the Cold War world that spoke far beyond Argentina. Alongside Mafalda he produced decades of single-panel humour collections, drawn with the economical, exacting line for which he is celebrated.
