Hellboy
About the artist
Richard Corben
Richard Corben was an American underground and fantasy artist whose lush airbrushed colour and grotesque figuration made him a singular voice in the medium. Rising through the underground press in the 1970s, he achieved international recognition with Den, first published in Heavy Metal magazine. Corben’s later career included a sustained creative relationship with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola on several prestige miniseries, as well as adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft. He was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame.
About this series
Hellboy
Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics, from 1993) is the creator-owned universe of Mike Mignola — a cigar-smoking demon investigator whose occult cases draw on folklore, pulp horror and the private mythologies of its artist. Mignola's chiaroscuro compositions and economical storytelling have influenced a generation of artists, and the series' wider Mignolaverse now includes B.P.R.D., Lobster Johnson and Abe Sapien.
