Dr Strange
About the artist
Gene Colan
Gene Colan was one of Marvel Comics’ most cinematic and idiosyncratic draughtsmen, active from the 1940s until his final works in the 2000s. His sinuous, shadow-driven pencilling defined long runs on Daredevil, Doctor Strange and — most famously — the Bronze Age classic Tomb of Dracula with writer Marv Wolfman. Colan’s pencils were notoriously difficult to ink, yet their soft, painterly quality lent an unmistakable atmosphere to horror and noir storytelling. He was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame.
