Neal Adams was among the most influential American comic artists of the late twentieth century. His late-1960s runs on X-Men, Batman and the socially engaged Green Lantern/Green Arrow (with writer Denny O’Neil) introduced a new photorealism and cinematic dynamism to mainstream superhero art. Adams was also a leading advocate for creators’ rights, playing a pivotal role in securing recognition and compensation for Superman’s creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
