Juán Giménez was a master of photorealistic painted comic art, internationally celebrated for his science-fiction imagery. After a formative period in Barcelona during the 1970s European comics boom, he collaborated with writer Alejandro Jodorowsky on Les Métabarons — an epic space-opera published by Les Humanoïdes Associés — which became one of the most influential works in European graphic literature. Giménez’s technique combined layered mixed-media painting with cinematic composition, establishing a visual language that defined a generation of science-fiction comics.
