American · 1926–2000
Gil Kane was a foundational artist of the American superhero comic, best known for co-creating the Silver Age versions of Green Lantern and The Atom at DC, and for his acclaimed 1970s runs on Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man. His hyper-dynamic figure drawing — with its signature low-angle, “up-the-nose” action shots — set a template imitated by generations of superhero artists. He was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame.
