Francisco Ibáñez was the most popular Spanish cartoonist of the twentieth century, the creator of Mortadelo y Filemón, the slapstick spy duo who became a permanent fixture of Spanish popular culture from their 1958 debut in Editorial Bruguera’s pages. His one-page strips 13, Rue del Percebe and Rompetechos further cemented his place in the collective imagination. Ibáñez drew the series continuously for more than six decades.
