Carlos Giménez is a foundational figure of contemporary Spanish comics. Through autobiographical cycles such as Paracuellos — an unflinching account of the Francoist social-aid children’s homes — and Los Profesionales, a roman-à-clef about the Spanish comics industry of the 1960s, he pioneered a deeply literary approach to the medium. His science-fiction series Dani Futuro (with writer Víctor Mora) is a classic of European bande dessinée for younger readers. Giménez has received Spain’s National Comics Prize and is widely regarded as one of the country’s most important cartoonists.
